JKG Challenges

Everyday Thanksgiving

I love the day we set aside to gather, to share moments of grace and gratitude.

Whether in the shopping, preparing, putting an extra leaf in the table, traveling to and from, parade watching, cheering for football teams, napping, or sneaking a second piece of pie. I love this day. More than this day, I love the practice of gratitude.

I do not always remember to be grateful, forgetting more than not…

It’s Your Life, Lead It!

Have you ever experienced that helpless feeling of having no control over your day? Your week? Your life?

Stuff happens. Stuff we do not choose. Stuff we do not prefer. Stuff we cannot control. Why this? Why me? Why now? What am I meant to learn? To do differently?

And, so it has been a season of tests…

I am reflecting on a delicious week of sun and nothingness….the gift of unstructured time and agenda-less days.

So very refreshing.

No words.

This Week’s Challenge:

How do you renew your spirit?

The Twins, They Just Keep Growing

A 3-minute read – Challenge 59

“Who’s your mama?”
We get this a lot, we children of “the twins.”

Eva, and her identical twin sister, Ina, turn 188 in a few weeks. Eva is my Mama and her twin sister, Ina, is my aunt. It is tricky telling one twin from the other. And, that’s just the way they like it. They love fooling people. Sometimes by accident. Sometimes…

What Do You Say?

A 2-minute read – Challenge 58

If you are sad for families and friendships being destroyed by political rhetoric meant to separate us…..me too.

If you wonder where the massive amounts of money flowing into these high- profile campaigns comes from…. me too.

More or Less Week 57
According to David Allen, efficiency expert and best-selling author, in the last three days you have probably received more change producing, project creating, priority shifting input than your grand parents received in 3 months. Meditate on that.

We are living in a constant state of receiving, interpreting, evaluating, deciding, and reacting to all kinds of stuff entering our lives. This includes…

A Place to Call Home

Week 56

A 3-minute read
Imagine. Watching your home, your safe space, being ripped from its foundation, disappearing in torrents of flood waters. Along with everything you own. Every single thing that made you feel at home in your home.

Imagine being disconnected from the rest of the world, not knowing if your family or friends are safe. For hours. Or days.

This happened. To thousands of people, our…

Problem or Opportunity?

Problem or Opportunity? Week 55
Every new day brings a few problems. Some new ones. Some old ones.
Every change, small or large, brings problems. New material to work through.
The condition of just being alive presents us with problems of one sort or another.
Some we anticipate. Others catch us by surprise.

We may not get a say in the kinds of problems we face, but we do get a say…

Ahem

Week 54
So, I have a chronic cough. It comes and it goes… for no apparent reason. This no- good, low-down cough has been coming and going for nearly 2 decades. The flare ups seem to be getting worse and lasting longer. Frittering away more of my life force and eroding my jolly good humor.

Medical tests reveal nothing that would cause such a vile symptom. And, still I cough. Most unpleasant…for…
